The dessert "room" had at least 12 different items to offer. I completely skipped the large assortment of veggies and salads and breads (which looked fabulous) so I could eat nothing but seafood. Everything - even the HUGE stock of crab legs - was cooked to perfection. My description won't even come close to conveying just how GREAT this place is, but I'll try: It has all the seafood you could possibly want (crab legs, broiled/fried/baked shrimp, scallops, crabmeat, oysters, mussels, etc., crawfish, soups, seafood casseroles) plus a lot of other meats (chicken, prime rib, etc.) and pasta. Now that I've been here, I will not go to any other Myrtle Beach buffet restaurant - I'll go here twice during my vacation week. However, this is the absolute BEST buffet at Myrtle Beach (and I've eaten at all kinds of Myrtle Beach restaurants for 30+ years). THE BEST BUFFET IN MYRTLE BEACH!! We came here on our last day on a recommendation by friends, and so I was hesitant going in (and I am a super-critical person by nature). We're going to hit it twice (at least) while we're there. Overall, if you are going to go to only 1 seafood buffet, this is the one to go to. I looked at the desserts, but didn't try any of them, I figured, get the seafood while I can, I live in Kansas City. Besides the abundant seafood, there was a landlubber's bounty also. Everything was stocked well and we like to go early(3pm, and I recommend going as early as possible to 1) use coupons, saves money 2) not waste time in lines, saves time 3) You can then do other things in the evening to work off the big meal, saves your waistline) to avoid the crowds. Giant Crab and Benjaman's were good, but the unanimous winner was Captain Georges(and my wife and daughter LOVE crab). We were then going to go back to the one we liked the best(This was a scientifically conducted culinary experiment). Our 1st visit in 2006 we went to Giant Crab, Captn Benjamans and Captain Georges(someone told us about this one and we had coupons for all 3). My family is going back to Myrtle Beach in June and I wanted to make sure I remembered the fantastic seafood buffet we went to. Governor Ronald Reagan delivered the dedicatory address at the 630 acre site on the American River. The California Exposition was dedicated on Monday, May 22, 1967. Funds were not allocated to begin construction on this land until 1963, and the State Fair continued at the Stockton Boulevard grounds until 1967. In 1948, the state purchased approximately 900 acres of undeveloped land along the American River north of downtown Sacramento. During its formative years (1929–1942?), the California Highway Patrol used some of the State Fair facilities as an unofficial "training academy", later using other state-owned areas in the Sacramento area for training use until the current CHP Academy was opened in 1976. During and after World War II, from 1942 to 1947, the Fair was suspended and the fairgrounds were occupied by the Army. Continued growth caused that site to be expanded by 75 acres (300,000 m 2) in 1937. But World War I interrupted the fair in 1917–18. Growth in population and attendance forced the purchase of 80 acres (320,000 m 2) just outside the city limits on Stockton Boulevard ( 38☃3′07″N 121☂7′07″W / 38.552°N 121.452°W / 38.552 -121.452), and the first fair was held there in 1909. Capitol Park, a six block site bounded by E, H, 20th and 22nd Streets ( 38☃4′48″N 121☂8′37″W / 38.580°N 121.477°W / 38.580 -121.477) was purchased and was home to the state fair for the next fifty years. In 1859, the exposition returned to Sacramento, and it was decided that a permanent site should be found. Given that travel was difficult in that era, the next several annual expositions were held at different locations around the state, including Sacramento (1855), San Jose (1856), Stockton (1857), and Marysville (1858). An agricultural exposition was organized and held in San Francisco in 1854, and California Historic Landmark #861 marks the site. The California legislature created the State Agricultural Society to promote California's reputation for farming and industry. The California Exposition and State Fair Police provides safety and security services to the Exposition. The California Exposition is a self-sufficient operation that receives no government funding but still has an estimated economic impact of more than $250 million on the region. During the annual California State Fair more than 2,000 seasonal temporary employees are hired. Cal Expo is governed by an appointed 11-member Board of Directors and daily operations are managed by the chief executive officer (selected by the Board). The California Exposition and State Fair ( Cal Expo) is an independent state agency established by law in the California Food and Agriculture codes. Īfter an investigation lasting over a year, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection ( Cal Fire) determined that the Tubbs Fire was "caused by a private electrical system adjacent to a residential structure" and that there had been no violations of the state's Public Resources Code. Santa Rosa's economic loss from the Tubbs Fire was estimated at $1.2 billion (2017 USD), with five percent of the city's housing stock destroyed. The Tubbs Fire was one of more than a dozen large fires that broke out in early October 2017, which were simultaneously burning in eight Northern California counties, in what was called the "Northern California firestorm". Its destructiveness was surpassed only a year later by the Camp Fire of 2018. At the time, the Tubbs Fire was the most destructive wildfire in California history, burning parts of Napa, Sonoma, and Lake counties, inflicting its greatest losses in the city of Santa Rosa. One designer that’s stayed ahead of the curve while ushering street-wear and hip hop fashion into the future is Donwan Harrell, whose career has included stints working alongside some of the biggest brands on the globe. While Karl Kani’s popularity dwindled with the influx of additional clothing brands catering to rap fans, Kani’s line will forever be credited with helping the lay the foundation for its predecessors. Throughout the ’90s, a number of rap artists would sport his clothing in music videos, advertisements and elsewhere, including Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Diddy and many others. The tactic worked and led to a partnership between Cross Colours founder Carl Jones, which helped put Kani on the map. Returning to the drawing board, Kani had the unconventional idea of paying a friend to hold up a sign with the brand’s logo during a taping of The Today Show to increase sales. Born in Costa Rica and raised in the East New York section of Brooklyn, Kani got his start selling clothes in his neighborhood before venturing to Los Angeles to open a clothing store on Crenshaw, which proved to be unsuccessful. One of the first Black designers of the hip hop era to breakout with their own clothing line was Karl Kani, whose signature baggy style of jeans served as the template for street-wear. Despite never becoming a full-on brand, The Shirt Kings are remembered as originators in the street-wear sector and their influence can be traced to numerous fashion designers of today. Servicing the biggest rap artists and neighborhood superstars of the ’80s and early ’90s, The Shirt Kings – who were located in a shopping mall dubbed the Coliseum – exploded in popularity, resulting in the trio becoming celebrities themselves. Launching their business in 1986, The Shirt Kings turned heads by airbrushing various cartoon characters and depicting them in a light that reflected the realism of the streets. Based out of Queens, New York, The Shirt Kings was headed by a trio of designers, Edwin “Phade” Sacasa, Rafael “Kasheme” Avery, and Clyde “Nike” Harewood, who decided to combine their talents after meeting one another at Manhattan High School of Art & Design. However, after various fashion houses took legal action against Dan, his boutique was closed in 1992, marking the end of an era. That street cred would lead to an array of musicians and athletes to seek out his services, including Mike Tyson, LL Cool J, Eric B & Rakim, KRS-One, The Fat Boys, and Bobby Brown. Opening his flagship store, Dapper Dan’s Boutique, in 1982, Dan would quickly become the go-to tailor for New York City’s biggest hustlers and neighborhood superstars, most notably Alberto “Alpo” Martinez. Taking matters into his own hands, Dan taught himself how to design from scratch, using bootleg fabric from luxury brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and MCM. Hailing from Harlem, New York, Dapper Dan took up the garment trade in the ’70s, but faced discrimination from various companies who refused to do business with the aspiring clothier. When listing the pioneers of high-end street-wear and hip hop fashion, Dapper Dan’s name is at the top of the list. |
